wednesdays are the worst/best

On Wednesdays, I teach at a different school than usual. It's much harder than my ''Tuesday/Thursday school''. The kids at my Wednesday school have absolutely no respect for me and come from a completely different background. It is really rough and, though I really love these students and want the best for them, I can't help but waking up each Wednesday with a little bit of dread. (Sometimes I hesitate before posting comments like this out of fear that my students would somehow see it. But I would feel no regret if my students saw this post...in fact, it might be a little helpful for them to realize that there are consequences to their careless actions).

After school on Wednesdays, however, is a different story. Andy, Gemma, Emily and I all meet at a coffee shop and work on lesson plants, talk, watch videos on Hulu or Youtube (something that our home internet is too slow for), etc. After we've done all the internetting that we can do, we cross the street and eat pizza at Bogart's (where we celebrated my birthday in September...the place with a Confederate flag waving on the roof and pictures of Humphrey Bogart inside. We're kind of confused about both, really).

Last night, we branched out and ate elsewhere (per mine and Andy's request). This new restaurant is quickly becoming a favorite of mine and last night, I ate the best meal I've eaten in a long time: carrot curry soup (with extra pepper -- always extra pepper). Oh my word.

Andy and I returned to the coffee shop yet again to get dessert -- a piece of blueberry cheesecake, which was not the best thing I've eaten in a long time. There are some things Germans don't know how to do. I guess that making cheesecake is one of those things.

I'm kind of obsessed with budgeting my money (seriously, I think my dad created somewhat of a monster) and I really only allow for 1 'eating out meal' during the week. Sometimes, I get a little scared by how much I enjoy sticking to a budget. Sometimes I also get a little scared by how much things like pfands (returning bottles for money) excite me. The other day, for instance, I was on my way to do some tutoring and I saw a water bottle in a trashcan. I stopped, did a double-take and then said to myself, ''That's 25 cents!'' and picked it up and cashed it in at the nearest grocery store. Somewhere along the way from point A (pulling a used water bottle out of the trash can) to point B (taking said used water bottle to the grocery store), I said to myself, ''Oh no. What have I become?''. But then I got my 25 cents and I didn't care so much anymore. 25 cents here and there adds up, you know....25 cents is half a liter of milk!

Oh, what a glamorous and exciting life I lead.
