reyna

when we lived in salzburg (don't you love how all my stories start out this way?), we ate at reyna quite a bit - so much so that it kind of became a joke amongst our group. a note about reyna: you can get a huge margehrita pizza for 5€. oh, and then you'll eat it in its entirety by yourself. everyone here orders pizzas for themselves - whole pizzas. when you go to restaurants and look around, you'll see tables where each person has a whole pizza all to themselves. i've seen this in germany, italy, hungary, austria, and probably a few other countries as well. the other day (on a wednesday), gemma, andy, emily and i were eating at bogart's - each with a pizza in front of us. each of us finished the entire pizza, too. emily said, ''won't it be weird to go back to the US and go to a restaurant and see tables with several people, splitting one pizza amongst themselves?''. yes, that will be very weird, actually. i cannot even really fathom that right now.

when kayla and i were in salzburg last time, we had to stop at reyna (i mean, we didn't even give ourselves the choice). it took great restraint for me to say, ''i think we should split a pizza, kayla''. this statement was quickly followed by a series of afterthoughts on my part, ''wait, what am i saying - no, we shouldn't''....''okay, yeah, maybe we should''....''no, never mind, i don't want to split one.'' finally, we decided that there was so much eating to be done in salzburg, that it was best to split the pizza between us, since we'd no doubt be eating something else in a matter of hours (or minutes, if we're being honest).

that was one of the hardest decisions i've ever made.

reyna is also featured in the background of one of the scenes in knight & day. i saw that movie this summer -solely because i knew part of it took place in salzburg. it was the strangest feeling, watching tom cruise and cameron diaz wandering through the streets of ''my city''. i didn't like it all! i kept recognizing all the little landmarks and thinking ''no, no, no, you shouldn't be there!''. i noticed when the salzburg scenes were over, i breathed a sigh of relief and realized i had been holding my beath the whole time. if anyone ever wants to do a case study on my unhealthy obsession with this city, i'd be open to that.
