why we went to spain

blogbloggg  blog2
anyone familiar with my original blog (which was strictly a salzburg blog) should know the names ‘sergio’ and ‘roman’ very well.  for those of you unfamiliar with these names, allow me to provide a backstory.  {also, as a visual aid, note that sergio = dark hair / roman = blonde.}

caroline and i were roommates in salzburg and we lived in an international studentenheim (a student home…kind of like a dorm but way, way better) amongst students from germany, hungary, spain, poland, ireland, england, bulgaria, etc.  sergio and roman lived above us and, as a result, we saw a lot of them.  they were a huge part of our experience in austria; had i not been so close with them, my time in salzburg would have been quite different, not to mention significantly less eventful (and i daresay there would have been a much lower number of “laugh ‘til your sides hurt” moments).
i often referred to our salzburg spanish counterparts as our older brothers - partly because of their protective nature and partly because they were so gosh-darn annoying.  for every memory of them making me laugh to the point of tears, there is a memory of me stomping down the stairs telling caroline, “i hate the spanish boys!” to match.

and let me tell you, despite the fact that they were the sole reason we even went to spain (we’d both already been a few times and didn’t really have any pressing sightseeing wishes to fulfill), there were a few times during our week there that i said to caroline, “put me on a plane, i need to get out of here”.  let’s just say they haven’t lost their touch when it comes to pushing my buttons.

do you want one example?  they do not – and i repeat – do not approve of any remotely pretty girl dating anyone who is not spanish*.  they say it’s “a waste of the beauty”.  and they will argue with you until they’re blue in the face if you beg to differ.

our week in spain was filled with frustration, hysteria, tapas, beautiful weather, drama (just a smidge) and more “spanish boy quotes” than i can remember; some of which i will share here and some of which i will never share, anywhere.

moral of the story:  stick around.  because i’ve got about a whole week’s worth of posts on these two.

*why the subject of our current non-spanish boyfriends = the most taboo topic in the history of topics

Yaaay! I mean, I only spent a very limited amount of time with these guys, but the "fight" you had with Sergio in the courtyard that one night will forever be a favorite memory of mine.

Jenny. I almost found a way to incorporate that fight into this post but the mere recollection of it angered me so much that i had to refrain.

haha, this made me laugh because I think it's a common way that Spanish boys are perceived---many times it's 'dammmit you espanish!' but then you kind of can't help but love them a bit.

Those guys look like so much fun! And I was gripped by your travels to Spain series!! How lucky that you weren't by yourself!!

I have had similar situations in Italian railway stations. Best advice is avoid Trieste station at all costs at night!!
