Linzergasse, Salzburg

Sometimes I have to stop by Salzburg and check on things, just to make sure the city is doing okay. As I posted last week, Kayla accompanied me and I was so excited about our trip that I literally couldn't sleep the night before.

Linzergasse, one of the 3 most famous streets in Salzburg (next to Getreidegasse and Steingasse), was our first stop. This is a really special street to us (especially Kayla), full of memories. She lived on this street and if you look at the 3rd picture down, you can see the tall church tower (St. Sebastians) which is Kayla's former residence.

When Jenny came to visit me in the summer of 2009, we saw 11 different cities in 7 different countries. Salzburg was her favorite, of course, and she said something that really struck me: "Of all the cities we went to, Salzburg was the only one that literally gave me chills. Walking around the city, I noticed I'd get goosebumps just looking around at how beautiful everything was". It's so true. Salzburg has some kind of magic that just captivates you and evokes strong emotions (especially for us who lived there!). When I lived there, for instance, I'd get chills all the time, just looking at the Salzach, or I'd tear up when I looked at the Fortress.

There are certain places that evoke more emotion from us than others. When I first returned to Salzburg last December, I walked into Merkur (the grocery store next to IK, where Caroline and I bought all of our groceries) and I wanted to burst into tears. If you look at the last photo, you'll see Spar (the grocery store on Linzergasse where Kayla used to buy all of her groceries). Her first trip into Spar was just as emotional. Nostalgia is a very strange emotion. And we certainly felt a lot of it last weekend.

In related news, Lingzergasse (and all of Salzburg in general) is as beautiful as ever!

More photos to come...

Hi! So, I just found your blog when I was looking at another blog and I had to comment. I almost cried looking through some of your posts. I lived in Salzburg for a semester (on Linzergasse in St. Sebastian as well!) and it is my favorite place in the world. The city is so incredibly dear to my heart. I am glad there are others who appreciate and love it as much as I do. Thank you for sharing pictures so I could get lost in nostalgia!

Um.....adding to my comment. Now I feel creepy because upon looking further into your blog I've realized that you were in Salzburg the semester after me with the same program! I LOVE Andreas. And I think we must know some of the same people since 2 of the girls from my semester stayed for a year. Anyway, please forgive the random comments. Salzburg is the best, isn't it?
