gnocchi

Thursday, January 27, 2011

I had a recipe for gnocchi that I wanted to make when I was in Poland. While grocery shopping for the ingredients, I, in my infinite wisdom, found a package of gnocchi (pre-made noodles) and put it in the shopping cart, in addition to buying the potatoes and all other ingredients. I didn't even notice my mistake until we got home and I realized (embarrassingly late) that we were supposed to use the potatoes to make the noodles.....not buy the pre-made noodles and add potatoes.

This is what happens when you love all things carbohydrate.
You think it's okay to eat noodles with potatoes...
and then you probably want french fries and cupcakes for dessert.

We saved the potatoes for later and came up with this masterpiece:

(not-homemade) gnocchi, Parmesan cheese, sauteed mushrooms & various Polish spices which I cannot spell.

(Oh and the dish in the background is my drug. Literally, I could eat this and nothing else for the rest of my life. In Polish, it's called 'kapusta', but in English it's cabbage, mixed with 1 grated carrot, 1 grated apple, olive oil and a smidge of sugar. It's seriously one of the best things I've ever had the pleasure of eating.)

Okay time for yet another confession. I'm a carb-aholic. My mom's Ukrainian and Polish and my dad's German. Can you say noodles and potatoes and dough balls for days??

I'm so hungry after seeing that creation of yours!!

the dane cook this was from my sisters christmas work party. she used to work at this stand up club in hollywood and is friends with some a lot of the people there.
the jason segal thing was pure dumb awesome luck lol. i went to a jazz festival in new orleans pretty much by myself and I saw him walking. I turned to the person next to me and said thats either "Marshal" or a hot guy who looks like him. He turned and gave me the silliest grin EVER. I proceeded to straight up follow him thru a crowd of people until i could look up his name on my phone. (I refused to call him marshal lol)

random.

All those years I should have been having you peel potatoes when we had mashed potatoes just for practice!!

i've learned how to adjust to wall heaters, gas stoves, lack of dryer, lack of garbage disposal, lack of dishwasher, lack of food (i'm in england..nuff said) running the heat 24/7 (im from california..nuff said) layers, walking, not having the right of way when street crossing, cheers, hot water bottles (seriously those things are amazing) electric tea kettles (again AMAZING) and being the "silly american girl"

are you coming to england anytime soon because I think we should hang out.

this post could be about my life, except swith the location to Armenia/Russia :) My mom has made fun of me my entire life for not being able to peel a potatoe with a regular knife...and when I first cooked for my bf, he stood there for two agonizing minutes while I tried to peel, then took the knife from me and peeled them himself. I'll never hear the end of it...but at least I'm off the hook for peeling potatoes!

And whenever faced with a gas stove I yell for the closest person and make them do it :)

Your gnocci look delicious...homemade or not!

I love gnocchi! But I am generally too lazy to make it from scratch and just buy it.

Oh, and peeling potatoes, bah! My boyfriend (Spanish) always makes fun of my knife-peeling abilities, and I respond that in the first world we have potato peelers. Roles are reversed when it's time to make salad: I tend to tear the lettuce into small enough pieces, and he responds that in the first world they have scissors.

Anyway.... I enjoyed this post!
