5 things for the 5th

1. You know how I always talk about Americans being sloppy and Europeans finding it repulsive (see here and here for more info)? Well, yesterday, I was walking home from the gym and a homeless man said to me (in English), "Nice pajamas....ha!". Please bear in mind that I was wearing black leggings-ish running pants, Nike running shoes and a pink fleece. And that was not fancy enough for a homeless man. Oh my dear goodness.  (I should have known I would stand out.   Here,  no one leaves my gym before changing back into their “normal” clothes...)

2. I cannot stop watching this video. And I'm not even embarrassed to admit it.

3. When I say something funny while teaching, it takes my students a good 30 seconds to process the information before they laugh. I totally get this, as I always experienced my own 30 second delay each time my (former) landlady yelled at me; I never really got truly offended until she walked away and I realized what she'd just said.

4. When I told my students # 1 today, they laughed.....30 seconds after I had finished talking.

5. People often ask me, "What do you miss about America?". Sometimes it's my family, sometimes it’s Oklahoma sunsets, sometimes it's air conditioning (although it's still too cold here to miss that right now), sometimes it's ice, sometimes it's free refills, sometimes it’s my wardrobe (could only bring 1/4 of it over here due to practicality issues)....but lately? I miss the house on Gray St.  I miss the way it smelled, I miss sharing a bedroom with my roommate, I miss the teeny-tiny yellow bathroom, I miss the way all of our friends seemed to flock there after class, I miss the kitchen (seen below).  I think my thoughts have been spinning themselves into a little web of nostalgia ever since Kaitlyn got married without me (the nerve).

{I also notice a Sonic cup in the background....so yeah, I also miss lemonberry Sonic slushes.}

Ok this one is probably my favorite post!!! Loved the story about the homeless man. Loved the 30 second delay laughing thing. Love it that you loved the house on Gray St so much, and Kaitlyn!! But I LOVED the video. I hadn't seen it. She reminded me of you when you were that age!!! So sweet of Justin to do that!!!

i can only imagine what I would have done if that happened to me (re: the gym) - likely a fake laugh that he also would have seen right though. Also I saw Kaitlyn's comments...You've Got Mail, DOES make everything better. Maybe go find a bouquet of sharpened pencils?

What did you decide to have your mom send you for snacks?

ha! love #1. When I was in Armenia this summer I broke a heel and so had to walk to the shoe store in flip flops. you should have seen the looks people were giving me *Gasp! How could she leave the house like that? with her toes exposed? and without a four inch heel? unacceptable!*

Sometimes LA feels worlds away from Dallas.. you know, when I'm missing chick-fil-a. It's the important stuff, right?

And just so you know, it only took me 29 seconds to laugh after #1. ;) Kidding, I thought it was great.
