so now you know the secret.

Sometimes I get the question, “How can you afford to travel all these places?” in the comment box.  And the answer is, I can’t really afford it.  So in order to fund my travel addiction, I do things like eat popsicles for dinner.  And sell my clothes on ebay.  And use my webcam as a mirror.
Yes, I know it doesn’t cost anything to look in the mirror.  But it does cost to buy a new light bulb for your windowless (and therefore sunlight-less) bathroom.  And I’m moving out of this place in a few days so you better believe I’m not wasting the extra few Euros on a light bulb I won’t even be enjoying come July 1st – Euros that could be spent on gelato.  Or pastries.  Or baby pinks.  Or, yeah, something that’s actually travel-related, I suppose…
Anyway, webcam hair and makeup sessions are actually much more effective than you’d think.
Although now I realize I need to cut my bangs.  But do I want to buy a pair of scissors?

Hahhahaa, I have not bought a mirror either! I also use webcam!!!!! :) :) I also travel a lot and I also get the question. But as you, I eat very cheaply and my apartment does not consist of anything but the necessary.

When my mum had visited me the first time, my dad called me "mum said I should give you some money because you are living so poorly. Tell me your bank account number". No dad, I do not NEED your money (even though I could always get some more for fun), I just chose not to buy a sofa, a TV, candles and mirrors, I chose to travel and enjoy cultures :)

And the best thing- I am happy! (as long as my computer works. It is however my TV, my mirror, my phone and my books)

I also use my computer as a mirror.. hhaha a lot of times I have to get ready at work or school because I'm always on the fly. I think it works beautifully!~

You are so lucky you are traveling so much.. you will not regret it in the end :)

Haha, too true! I am a wee travel junky also, and my friends always ask me how I can afford to be shooting off again (Singapore next week, yay!). I don't think the majority understands how easy it is to live sparingly and how much you save.

Although, I must admit, I've never had a popsicle for dinner. But yes to gelato!

What a smart little tip! It seems kind of hard to live even without a MIRROR-- but I'm sure it pays off because you get to travel! Thanks for that little secret of yours. Maybe if I apply it, I'll be able to travel more often ;)

Hi Jenni,

Thanks for commenting on my blog. I too like to scrimp on other things to support my addiction to travel. I love the Popsicle meals - if my husband weren't in the picture I would eat Ramen every meal - it would be only $1 a day to eat! :) I look forward to checking out your blog, I like your style.

The idea of a web cam mirror is actually brilliant, really.

And gelato is way more important than light bulbs, obvi.
