any time i fly from europe –> to usa or vice versa, i try to arrange a stopover in london. and each time i go, i find that i love it more and more. here’s why:
1. it’s the birthplace of my friend andy, who has an english accent so awesome many of my american friends suspect it’s fake; it’s just too charming to be real. plus, he wears velvet blazers with mickey mouse t-shirts, so…..
2. the tube. touristy, i know. but i love it. i love swiping that yellow oyster card through the turnstile and feeling like a brit. until i open my mouth to say “truck” instead of “lorry” or spell “colour” without a ‘u’.
3. platform 9 3/4. enough said.

platform 9 3/4. you got it. every time i go i pick up an hp book, british version. they are so much better! and then i find myself speaking like a brit, then i have to correct myself and apologize with an, "i'm sorry, i've just spent too much time reading in british."
i love your blog. i just recently jumped ship (aka moved to taiwan) so i'm totally down for some other ex-pat experiences.
You should fly to London on Iceland Air, they let you stop in Iceland for free! And then go to London and fly wherever. I don't care after that, haha.
@nova, whoa really? that's awesome.
whyyyy do British people sound so much cooler than us? And by cooler, I mean more intelligent/sophisticated.
I want to live in London bad. Real bad. I think I'd make a fine Brit!!
I just wanted to say that
a) I loved your blog posting about Czech/eastern europe (especially the pic with Tim, although I do love the one of us too, we had great weather!)
and
b) I love that you featured Andy. Now lets make cookies and watch the Alps.
I want to go to London so bad! Europe needs to be the next place I go!!!
That's it. You've convinced me. I'm moving to Europe, asap!
I love London because of the Jasmine Deen (sp?) hotel!! And because of Abbey Road!! And because of the London Eye!! And because of Notting Hill!!
i need to fly to london with you and perhaps id have more fun. i desperately want to like the city.
and nova is right about flying iceland air. not only is it often cheaper (depending where you fly from), you can choose to have a long layover (like more than a day sometimes) in iceland and you can tour around. i have done it. it is amazingggg. and you can take two bags for free (im all about some deals lately).
i would go just to see platform 9 3/4. seriously though - that is how much i love hp.
I spent four days in London last year, but somehow I missed platform 9 3/4 :( That's a good reason to go back there soon, I think..
I ordered the Hunger Games yesterday and can't wait to start reading!
haha well i'm British does that make me cool? did you know that they employ people with Scotish accents for customer service jobs over the telephone over here because apparently poeple are less likely to be rude to them as with someone with an English accent?! and it's true, the Scottish accent is just so much nicer :)
I love love love London! I'm pretty sure it's my favorite city... and I might get to go back in June which would make me happy happy happy.
what?! platform 9 3/4?! yes please! total awesomeness!
I love london!
:D I don't think you'd be able to break me away from that wall!
Also, this post and the show "Sherlock" have convinced me to put London on my must see list!
